Istria Vacation Packages & Tours

Welcome to Istria

Istria is where Croatia shades into something closer to northern Italy — and not just in geography. The hilltop towns, the truffle forests, the Malvazija wine, the slow lunches that stretch into the afternoon: this is a peninsula that takes food and landscape seriously, and rewards travelers who do the same. The coast gets most of the attention, and Rovinj deserves it. Its Venetian-era houses stack up from the harbor in tightly packed rows of terracotta and ochre, the streets so narrow between them that the upper floors almost touch. The Church of St. Euphemia crowns the hilltop above, visible from the water long before you arrive. At the southern tip of the peninsula, Pula’s Roman amphitheater dates to the 1st Century AD and seats 20,000 — still used today for concerts and the Pula Film Festival each summer.

But Istria’s interior is where the peninsula earns its reputation. Motovun sits on a hilltop above the Mirna River Valley, its medieval walls rising from vineyards that produce some of the region’s best Malvazija. In autumn, the forests below are hunted for both black and white truffles — Istria is one of the few places in the world that produces both, and a truffle hunt followed by lunch in a farmhouse kitchen is the kind of experience that doesn’t need much embellishment. Grožnjan, further north, was virtually abandoned after the Second World War until artists moved in during the 1960s. More than 20 galleries now fill its stone buildings, and in July the village hosts a jazz festival.

Meet the Team

If you’re looking to experience a different side of Croatia, spend a few days exploring Istria. Known for its charming hilltop towns, beautiful coastline, exceptional food, and world-class truffles, the region offers a more relaxed pace and a rich blend of Croatian and Italian influences.

Things to Do in Istria

Croatia’s northern peninsula trades islands for vineyards, truffle forests, and Venetian hill towns, with a Roman arena in Pula that rivals the Colosseum.

Visit the Pula Arena

Once the chief naval base of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the city of Pula is a proven combination of a commercial port and emerging riviera town. Founded by the Romans in 177BC, a stunning and impressive amphitheatre similar Rome’s Colosseum was built and still remains as the city’s biggest attraction. The city offers a selection of medieval sights making it a popular destination on the Istrian peninsula.

View of Rovinj

Discover the Beautiful Town of Rovinj

The Old Town of Rovinj with sea-fronted, colorful facades, was once an island. When the town was under Venetian rule in 1763, the island was connected to the mainland. The city had seven gates, three of which have been preserved to this day. The largest monument in the city, the Church of St. Euphemia, is a Venetian Baroque building open to visitors.

Adventure to Hilltop Villages

Escape the busy town and experience the authentic and idyllic hill top villages. With beautiful views of Istra, they truly are unspoiled. Groznjan, Zavrsje, Oprtalj to name a few but the most picturesque is Motovun. Located on a 280 meter hill above the Mirna River, this town and the surrounding area is famous for the black and white truffles you can find in the nearby forests. Motovun film festival also takes place here every summer.
