The current Covid-19 situation in Croatia
Thanks to excellent medical facilities and very stringent lock down measures, Croatia has emerged as one of the least impacted countries in Europe. Croatia’s borders opened to ALL travellers from early June 2020 without having to quarantine.
Travelers are welcome to Croatia with a certificate of vaccination, a negative viral test result, or proof of recovery. Covid-19 PCR tests must be taken at least 72 hours in advance, or a rapid antigen test taken no more than 48 hours prior to arrival. A certificate of vaccination is valid for up to 270 days (9 months) from the date of the second dose. All tourists must arrive with evidence of accommodations for the entire trip paid by the time of arrival
Raising the Standards in Safety & Hygiene in Croatia
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many organizations throughout the travel and airline industry to rethink their procedures to ensure their guests have a safe, healthy experience, including cruise lines. While efforts to contain the coronavirus continue to evolve, Unforgettable Croatia is taking proactive steps to raise the bar when it comes to hygiene and service on board our ships.
The steps outlined below are the measures we and our suppliers are taking to ensure your health and safety is our highest priority from the moment you board our ships, to the day you disembark.
Our Cleaning Procedures
Minimizing the spread of any virus is best accomplished by thoroughly disinfecting surfaces. Unforgettable Croatia will be increasing the frequency of regular cleaning, with all common areas cleaned and sanitized at least twice a day using cleaning agents proven to eliminate bacteria and viruses. Solutions with at least 70 percent alcohol and diluted bleach are known to be effective for eliminating the coronavirus.
We will ensure that all cabin keys, remote control devices, doorknobs, handrails, light switches, and other surfaces that are frequently touched are disinfected multiple times each day, including all public toilets on the ship. In certain areas like the ship’s salon, surfaces like chairs and desks will be cleaned after each use.
Daily cabin cleaning service will be provided during all cruises. To maintain social distance, guests will need to leave their cabins while they are thoroughly cleaned and treated with a sanitizer as mentioned above that has been approved for combatting the spread of the coronavirus. Guests who do not want their cabin cleaned daily can refuse if desired. Extra pillows and blankets will no longer be kept in the cabin wardrobes; however, they can be provided upon request.
Although personal hygiene recommendations have been published worldwide, due to their importance we will be repeating this information to all guests frequently to ensure safety. Washing your hands often and not touching your face, especially your nose, mouth or eyes is critical for minimizing or halting the spread of COVDID-19 and all other viruses.
To assist guests further, we are adding the following to every cruise:
Hand sanitizer. We will make hand sanitizer available at the entrance of the salon, as well as the entrance of the ship. We ask that all guests kindly use it when entering the salon and when embarking or disembarking the ship.
Disinfecting wipes, soap, and paper towels. We will have these items available in all guest cabins for personal use.
Complimentary face masks. Our guests will be provided with complimentary disposable surgical facemasks to use on a daily basis when disembarking the ship for daily excursions.
All Unforgettable Croatia ships include air-conditioning in the cabins which can be individually controlled. The air-conditioning systems undergoes annual maintenance, with filters cleaned and replaced as necessary.
As large AC systems may contribute to the spread of viruses, due to COVID-19, we will take additional measures to ensure all units are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. As the cabins have individually controlled air-conditioning, guests can easily turn them off, when not in use.
To improve air circulation, we will recommend keeping windows and doors in the salon open during breakfast and at lunch. This area will also be organized to allow for social distancing. We will remind guests during their stay to open their cabin windows several times a day when possible for ventilation. Air ionizers will also be added to the restaurant areas of all our vessels. They are known to be highly effective for eliminating all microorganisms, preventing the possibility of an infection.
Unforgettable Croatia offers small-ship cruises which means only small groups of passengers, a maximum of 36, travel on with us, allowing us to meet all social distancing requirements.
On nearly all our ships there are extra-spacious sundecks making it easy to place loungers and deck chairs at the recommended distance of at least 1.5 meters. An additional change will be made in that all chairs will be marked with cabin numbers so that guests have their own chair to use. We will kindly remind all passengers to use only the chair marked with their cabin number.
All of our ships have Jacuzzis on board. Guests will be requested to limit the use of the Jacuzzi to two people at a time. There is no evidence that a Jacuzzi or swimming pool will put users at risk of Covid-19, provided social distancing rules are followed.
One of the highlights of our cruises is the opportunity to hop on a dinghy to reach the nearest swimming bay from the ship. We will continue to offer our guests this service, however, due to social distancing the number of people in the dinghy will now be limited to a maximum of four people at one time.
The public areas, including the salon, will be rearranged, placing the furniture in a way that allows for more room for social distancing. Rather than eight people at a table, dining tables will be arranged to accommodate four guests. Additional tables will be placed outside.
Instead of a breakfast buffet, all meals will be served. Depending on the ship’s layout and group size, they will be served on both the outside deck and in the salon, simultaneously, or in two separate sessions. The chef and any assistants will wear gloves when preparing foods. Crew members will also serve food and beverages while wearing gloves.
Finger foods and snacks typically served throughout the day in the salons, will be removed along with any books, newspapers, magazines, board games, etc. for guest safety. Instead of water fountains, water bottles will be provided.
Fully Trained Crew & Ground Staff
Every member of our exceptional crew will be trained and informed on all new procedures, including keeping the highest standards of hygiene and following social distancing recommendations when interacting with guests.
They will be advised to use hand sanitizer regularly, and to use both masks and gloves. Additionally, each day before starting their shift, crew members will be required to check their body temperature and not any respiratory issues. If they have any symptoms, they will be instructed to consult their healthcare provider.
Typically on arrival day, our crew assist clients on board our ships and carry their luggage. To maintain social distancing, guests are advised to carry their own baggage by the Croatian Institute of Public Health to avoid excessive contact. If you find you need assistance, a crew member will be happy to help using gloves. We request that only one piece of luggage is carried on per person, plus an additional piece of hand luggage.
Experienced Cruise Directors
In order to respect social distancing policies, swimming breaks will be regulated by the cruise director and the crew. The number of passengers using the upper deck and swim platform will be limited. The crew will observe, keeping track of the number of people in all areas to prevent crowding.
The cruise director will organize disembarkation when the ship arrives at each new port, communicated via the ship’s sound system to maintain social distancing. If ships are moored next to each other, we will ask guests to follow certain procedures when embarking and disembarking: when leaving the ship, guests should go towards the bow, and when coming from the mainland they should walk towards the stern, provided the ship’s design allows.
Respecting check-in and check-out times are also essential to avoid creating a crowd when walking onboard or when leaving the ship. Always mind the social distancing policy by keeping a minimum distance of 1.5 meters or speak to the cruise director if you are prevented from doing so.
Daily Health Checks
Our experienced cruise directors will carry out daily non-touch temperature checks with infrared temperature thermometers. Each guests daily temperature will be monitored.
Any guests who show signs of a fever or who are feeling unwell will be transported to the shore and to the nearest hospital or medical centre for a health check.
Healthcare facilities in Croatia are considered to be of a very high standard and in line with EU standards. It’s important to note that healthcare is free to all Croatian citizens with the country benefiting from advanced treatment and the latest technology. There are hospitals in Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik along with medical centres in Hvar and Korcula. So no matter where you are on the cruise, you are no more than an hour away from the nearest medical facility.
