Croatia Travel Restrictions
Croatia Coronavirus Travel Updates
This extensive and detailed travel hub for travel to and from Croatia, is updated daily to provide you with the most current information available, regarding the current entry requirements to Croatia, which are changing regularly during the prolonged pandemic.
In 2019, Croatia experienced nearly 20 million international visitors and had been one of the fastest growing destinations for visitor numbers for any country in recent history. In 2020 visitor numbers fell dramatically with the closing of the borders and travel restrictions that affected the entire globe.
Croatia was fortunately one of the first European countries that had immediately closed its borders for international tourism in early March 2020, gradually opening up and easing restrictions on entry, as the summer season progressed. As Croatia is predominantly a summer European travel destination, international tourism between November and April is always very limited, which is why the country opted to close its borders over the quieter winter period.
From mid-May 2020 onwards the Croatia borders were open to all travelers, including Americans who required a PCR test to enter the country. Whilst the EU banned American visitors from entering Schengen countries in 2020, Croatia is not part of the Schengen region and is able to maintain control of its own borders. Therefore Croatia allowed American travelers to still visit the country from May through to October 2020 and are currently allowed to enter Croatia, subject to conditions as below.
Update on May 3 2021 – The Croatian government has announced that they aim to have a minimum of 50% of population vaccinated by the end of 2021. Those working directly in tourism are being vaccinated as priority.
The hospitality sector is now fully operational with restaurants, cafes and bars now all open nightly until 10pm. Outdoor service only at this time.
Update – May 25 2021 – We are pleased to report that the summer 2021 season has officially commenced and we currently have a number of valued clients from the US and other countries that are enjoying their trips to this beautiful country. We have many clients from the US that are due to travel from June onwards.
Update – June 18th 2021 – We have received some glowing reviews and feedback from our clients that have recently returned to the US from their trips. They mention the exceptional level of customer service received from all the local people in Croatia from the hoteliers, restaurant staff, to the crew on the cruise ships. They also mention that this trip the best time ever to visit this beautiful country, with fewer crowds than previously.

The Croatian authorities are currently enjoying a successful 2021 season and the hospitality sector started to reopen from March 2021 with table service outdoors. Passengers must have a negative PCR test in their possession upon entry, taken not more than 48 hours prior to entry. As of March 14 2021, passengers do not now need to stay in self-isolation upon arrival and can continue with their trip. If not in possession of the negative test, a PCR test is taken at their own expense, at an institution authorized to perform PCR testing and the result must be negative.
As of April 1 2021, it was stated that, instead of a PCR certificate, entry is permitted for passengers in possession of a vaccination certificate for persons who received a second dose of COVID-19 vaccine more than 14 days prior. Further details are on this link.
Entry for tourism reasons is currently permitted only with documentary evidence of an accommodation paid in advance and in full, prior to arrival at the border. A reservation which has not been paid in full, is simply not sufficient for entry to Croatia.
As of June 1 2021, children under the age of 12, can enter without any vaccination or PCR test, as long as they are accompanied by an adult that complies to the entry regulations.

The 3-day period is the 3 days before the flight’s departure. The Order uses a 3-day timeframe instead of 72 hours to provide more flexibility to the traveler. By using a 3-day window, test validity does not depend on the time of the flight or the time of day that the test was administered. For example, if a passenger’s flight is at 1pm on a Friday, the passenger could board with a negative test that was taken any time on the prior Tuesday or after. More details here
